This past spring/summer we had good fortune to spend 11 weeks traveling through Canada and Alaska with some dear friends. It was a trip to remember and I’ll be posting up some separate posts for the highlights.
This post is about my trip to Katmai National Park in Alaska. It was, by far, my personal favorite highlight from our trip. I went to watch the brown bears hunt for salmon at Brook’s Falls. While that did not disappoint, the flight there and back was almost as memorable!
I flew out of Homer, Alaska the morning of July 25th, 2023 with Emerald Air Service. While pricey, I viewed it as a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing so the price wasn’t as big of a deal. With that said, I’ve not done a lot of trips of this nature so it’s probably a fair price for what it involved. It was a three hour round trip flight landing at Brook’s Camp and I had four hours to explore. As you’ll see from my iPhone photos of the flight, it was spectacular! I also took a ton of video and recently put a video compilation together which I’ll link below. Of course the brown bears hunting salmon at Brook’s Falls was the main highlight and while the salmon weren’t jumping much the day I was there, it was still worth every penny to see these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.
